Weeks of heavy rainfall have left widespread devastation across parts of Cross River State, submerging farmlands, damaging classrooms and disrupting the livelihoods of hundreds of farming families.
As affected residents appeal for urgent assistance, officials of the National and Cross River State Emergency Management Agencies have begun assessing the extent of the damage, with assurances that relief efforts will follow.
From Biase to Ikom, Etung to Obubra Local Government Areas, communities are grappling with the aftermath of severe flooding.
Hectares of cassava, groundnut and rice farms have been submerged, leaving many farmers counting huge losses.
For many victims, the flood has destroyed not only their crops but also their means of livelihood.

Some say cassava planted months ago has begun to rot beneath the floodwaters, while others fear they may not recover financially without government support.
The joint assessment team, accompanied by the Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Mercy Nsor, also inspected affected classrooms and other public infrastructure.
Officials of the National and State Emergency Management Agencies, say the visit is to determine the extent of the damage, advise residents in flood-prone communities on safety measures and provide the assessment needed to facilitate intervention from NEMA.
For residents whose farms now lie beneath floodwaters, the assessment offers hope.
But until relief arrives, many families remain uncertain about how they will recover from losses that have wiped out months of labour.
