The Cross River State Government is strengthening its revenue drive by recognising businesses that meet their tax obligations promptly, while encouraging greater voluntary compliance and improved service delivery.

Chairman of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service, Edwin Okon, who represented Governor Bassey Otu, stated this in Calabar during activities marking the 2026 International Customer Service Week.

Cross River State is seeking to strengthen its financial capacity to meet development priorities, making a reliable revenue base important to the delivery of public services and the implementation of government programmes

Against this background, the Cross River State government used the 2026 Customer Service Week, themed “The Extra Mile,” to recognise businesses whose tax payments and timely remittances contribute to its revenue.

Governor Bassey Otu represented by the Chairman, Cross River Internal Revenue Service, Edwin Okon, says the recognition is intended to strengthen cooperation between the government and the businesses that contribute to its revenue.

Beyond recognising established taxpayers, the state is also supporting small-scale businesses, with the expectation that stronger business activity will generate more income, sustain livelihoods and broaden the state’s revenue base.

The recognition was also welcomed by representatives of the organisations visited, who acknowledged the gesture and expressed their commitment to sustaining a productive relationship with the state government.

By rewarding compliance and supporting business growth, the Cross River State Government is betting on a revenue system where businesses thrive, taxpayers meet their obligations willingly, and increased economic activity translates into more funds for public services and development.
