Cross River State Government says the 24 percent rate of people living with malaria disease across the eighteen local Government Areas of the state, especially the riverine communities is unacceptable and needs urgent attention.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Janet Ekpenyong made this known during the 2023 World Malaria Day in Calabar.

Ekpeyong who reaffirmed Government’s commitment to tackling the malaria disease and reducing it to zero level, explained that malaria is a major disease that contributes to the high mortality rate in Nigeria.
She advised against self-medication by the citizens, which she said is inimical to individual quality Healthcare.
With the theme “Time to deliver Zero malaria, Invest, Innovate and Implement ” the Government said it is committed to ensuring that vulnerable pregnant women, the elderly, and children under 5 years of age have access to health care and safe delivery.
