The Cross River State Government has flagged off the 2026 wet season farming programme with the distribution of improved seed yams and other agricultural inputs to farmers across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
The intervention is aimed at boosting food production, strengthening food security, and improving rural livelihoods.
Representing Governor Bassey Otu, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo, described the initiative as a deliberate effort to strengthen agriculture and rural development.
For beneficiaries, the intervention came as a timely boost ahead of the planting season.
The highlight of the event was the introduction of the Rapid Seed Yam Multiplication Technology, which allows farmers to produce between 20 and 30 planting setts from a single seed yam, improving yield and income.
