Cross River State police command has confirmed the killing of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Egbe Edum, by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday in Calabar.
The state command`s Public Relations Officer,Irene Ugbo, confirmed the death to Newsmen in Calabar.
Ugbo said that the deceased, who came into the state to see his family, was killed with an axe by the gunmen, suspected to be cultists on the Murtala Mohammed Highway.

She said investigation has commenced to unravel the killings of the late Senior Officer who was an indigene of Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Until his death the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP. Egbe Eko Edum, was the Commanding Officer of 73 PMF Squadron, Magumeri, Borno state.
