A massive landslide has torn through Anansa Road in Calabar Municipality, threatening one of the city’s most important waterfront access corridors and raising fears of wider infrastructure failure if urgent intervention is delayed.
The affected road links Obutong, Navy Jetty and Inland Water, serving residents, transport operators, businesses and federal government facilities along the Calabar channel.
While no life was lost, the collapse has exposed the vulnerability of a corridor that supports both economic and security-related activities in the area.
What began as a small erosion near the riverbank has now eaten deep into the roadway, leaving sections of the corridor unstable after days of heavy rainfall.

Deputy Governor Peter Odey visited the site with senior government officials and ordered immediate mobilisation of emergency works to contain the slide and prevent further damage.
The state government says the situation has moved beyond a routine erosion case and now requires technical assessment and federal collaboration.
The State Emergency Management Agency has assured affected residents that assistance will be provided.
For many residents, the greatest concern is not only the damage already done, but the fear that continued rainfall could trigger a wider collapse along a road that connects communities, businesses and critical government facilities on the Calabar’s waterfront.
