The “No Mask No Movement” order has commenced in Cross River State amid low compliance with the people calling for an extension of the enforcement deadline.

The State Government, however, insisted that there will not be any postponement with security operatives seen at various roundabouts and checkpoints within the metropolis enforcing the No Mask No Movement order.

The enforcement of the order which was postponed twice by the State Government became operational Tuesday morning.

It is part of measures introduced by the State Government to contain the spread of Coronavirus in Cross River State.

The State Taskforce on COVID-19 had directed security operatives to arrest and quarantine for 14 days any person or group of persons, irrespective of socio-economic status, caught on the streets without face mask.

Governor Ben Ayade, while assuring the people on sustaining the lockdown, called on tailors who can make standard nose masks to join the state-owned garment factory for production.

Meanwhile, youths especially students who are currently on holidays as a result of the closure of their schools and the Coronavirus lockdown are making brisk business with the sell of nose and face masks in Calabar, the state capital.

When AIT went to the popular Watt Market in the city centre, hawkers who are mostly students were seen selling the masks.

David Favour and Olatunji Olaitan are some of those who were seen sitting at home as being boring at this time and are engaged in selling of nose masks because of how much they make on a daily basis.

Other youths who see the business as a matter of survival, said they needed to go back to school and continue with their education.

The global Coronavirus pandemic has led to the shutting down of schools across Nigeria while sit-at-home order has become an issue of concern to many as a result of reduced or no income despite the daily increase in the expenses of most homes.
