Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has presented 15 electric cars to magistrates to improve their mobility, enhance their security and support the effective administration of justice.
The presentation in Calabar marks the first batch of vehicles allocated to magistrates, many of whom have faced transportation challenges in travelling to and from their official engagements.
For magistrates who depend on public transport, commuting to work can come with security concerns, particularly when handling criminal cases.
Representing Governor Otu at the presentation, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ekpenyong Cobham, said the intervention reflects the State Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of public servants.

Representing the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Ikpeme, the Permanent Secretary of the Judiciary, Ikwo Bassey, said the provision of the vehicles addresses a longstanding mobility challenge within the judiciary.
For the magistrates, the electric cars address both transportation challenges and concerns about personal security.
For the judiciary, the provision marks a practical step towards improving the working conditions of magistrates, with the expectation that better mobility will support the demands of dispensing justice across the state.
