No fewer than 11 illegal hospitals in Calabar and its environs have been shutdown by the Cross River State Government.
Also clamped down were unapproved treatment centres and illegal food and beverage production centres within Calabar metropolis.
The State Commissioner for Health, Betta Edu who led the Enforcement Taskforce Team to inspect some of the facility centres, said the effort was in a bid to get the state rid of quackery.

Edu who frowned at the increasing number of illegal hospitals in the state, said the eagle eye of the taskforce and surveillance team with the support of the security agencies will be on guard to monitor all hospitals in the State.
The commissioner said those running unapproved hospitals and medical facilities will face the law.
She also called on those with expired operating licence to approach relevant government agencies within three months for compliance.
