Civil society organisations in Nigeria, have called for the immediate release of Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with The Foundation, an investigative journalism outfit.
Representatives of the civil society groups were at the police headquarters in Abuja to protest the continuous detention of Ojukwu, who was arrested by the police on May 1 2024.

They expressed concern over what they described as the rise in attacks and detention of journalists by police, describing the development as a source of worry and a threat to press freedom in Nigeria.

The protesters were received by the Commissioner of Police, Federal operations Vungmoh Kwaimo and the Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner Ben Igweh.
Ojukwu was arrested in Lagos, and later transferred to Abuja, accused of violating the Cybercrime Act, which has been largely criticized as a tool for censorship.
