Farmers, Herders in Ogun agree to set up conflict resolution committee

Farmers and Herders in Yewa North and Imeko Afon local government area of Ogun state have agreed to set up a conflict resolution committee to settle crises that may arise in the cause of their business activity.

State Police Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu who called a townhall meeting in Aiyetoro to address the lingering Farmers /Herders conflict in the area appealed to both parties to tolerate each other.

The conflict resolution meeting was well attended by the farmers, Herders, traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders.

Many at the meeting, called at the instance of the Police Commissioner agreed that the farmers and herders are not enemies saying that it is normal for misunderstanding between parties but it should not be allowed to snowball into a major crisis.

There has been a rise in tension in the ares since the Ogun State government signed the Anti-open grazing law in 2021, with complaints of government’s seeming unwillingness to implement the legislation.
