The Minister Of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd) has called for the deepening of security apparatus at the grassroot through the collaboration of Local Government administration, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Progressive Governors Forum and the Federal Character Commission in Abuja, Gen Musa said rural dwellers must have confidence in their leadership to be able to fight the common enemies.
The workshop is organised to deepen awareness and the implementation of one of the Federal Character Commission’s mandate on the fair and equitable distribution of socio-economic amenities and infrastructure across the Federation.
Issues affecting security can not be wished away at this time of Nigeria’s history especially when it concerns local Government areas.
The Minister of Defence was passionate about strengthening security at the grassroot.
President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume reminded local Government Administrators of their responsibility in ensuring inclusivity and fairness in Governance.
Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission Motunrayo Omidiran and Director General of National Orientation Agency Lanre Issa-Onilu were explicit on the role of local government in ensuring the implementation of the principles of Federal Character.
The theme of the workshop is ” Translating Federal Character principles into local Governance.
