Delta and Rivers State Governors extol sterling qualities of new DG, WTO

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has congratulated former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her emergence as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olisa Ifeajika and made available to ait.live, Governor Okowa expressed joy at the successful emergence of Okonjo-Iweala an illustrious Deltan from Ogwashiuku, a two-time Minister of Finance who led the country’s economy to exit foreign debt obligations under President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Governor Okowa described Okonjo-Iweala as a brilliant, competent, and world class international development expert.

Governor Okowa wished her success in her new job as the DG,WTO and first female and African to lead the global trade body in its 25 years history.

Also reacting to the emergence of Okonjo-Iweala is Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who said the world has entered a new era with the appointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Director-General, World Trade Organisation, WTO, and described her appointment as a beacon of hope for Nigeria.

The Rivers State Chief Executive is also confident that Okonjo-Iweala, who has distinguished herself as a renowned economist and contributed to the economic successes of many nations, will usher in new dawn at the WTO.

Governor Wike added that throughout her career both at the World Bank and as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala consistently demonstrated an exceptional taste for transparency, accountability, and passion for equity, qualities that the world is yearning for.
