Voters in Udu local government area of Delta State, South-South Nigeria participated in Saturday’s bye-election to fill the vacant State House of Assembly constituency seat.
Ay some of the polling units where AIT.live monitored the exercise, voting started by 8am before the 8.30am scheduled for official commencement of voting, due to early arrival of election materials.
At Oghior Primary School, voters turned out in large numbers and the process was peaceful despite absence of security personnel.
The situation was slightly different at Unit 4 Polling Centre where the BVAS machine malfunctioned thereby causing accreditation challenges for voters.
Reacting to the glitches, an election observer, Zacheus Babajide and the Chairman of Udu local government area, Vicent Oyibode, called on INEC, to ensure all BVAS machines are in good condition.

In the meantime, counting of votes commenced in some polling units before the 2.30pm set by INEC for voting to official end.
It would be recalled that on June 30, 2026, the Delta State House of Assembly, declared the Udu Constituency seat vacant following the defection of the representative, Collins Egbetamah, from the All Progressive Congress, APC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
