Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission Tonobok Okowa says the performance of Nigerian athletes in the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England and the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon is an indication that the nation’s female athletes have continued to improve.
Okowa who said this while fielding questions from journalists after inspecting some key ongoing projects within the state capital Asaba ahead of the 21st National Sports Festival tagged “Delta 22” commended the athletes for making Nigerians proud and rewarding their coaches for work well done.
He also said the successes were the result of synergy among the team as a whole.
Okowa, accompanied on the inspection of the various projects by the Director of the Sports Commission and other directors, said a meeting with the contractors will be fixed to examine areas that need to strengthened.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far and called for an increase in the work tempo.
The projects inspected include the Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba, the Delta State Sports Commission Hostel, Hockey Complex at St Mulumba, Okpanam, Swimming Pool and the two Indoor Sports centers that will host boxing, kick boxing, judo, karate and weightlifting events.
