Business owners around the popular Bank road in Ado Ekiti State have condemned the recent demolition of property worth millions of naira by the state government along the axis.

The concerned business owners blamed the state government for the non-issuance of notices before embarking on the demolition.

Akinlayo Kolawole, who spoke on behalf of others said the rule of law was completely neglected in the demolition exercise.

Kolawole, therefore urged the Ekiti State government to initiate dialogue with the affected property owners with a view to paying them compensation in areas where claims of illegal demolition have been clearly substantiated.

In his reaction, the state commissioner for lands and housing, Oladiran Adesua said the demolition became necessary given the ongoing construction work on the new Ado-Iyin road.

He said notices have since been issued to property owners way back in 2019 ahead of the demolition and wondered why the aggrieved business owners refused compliance with government directives.

He however urged those with genuine claims to visit the state’s land bureau with necessary documents.

Recall that Ekiti state government in the last one week demolished some property along Bank road in Ado Ekiti for noncompliance to relevant land allocation laws of the state
