The incident according to eyewitnesses rendered hundreds of residents homeless.
The Olukere of Ikere Ekiti, Ganiyu Obasanyin appealed to the Ekiti State government to assist with the provision of infrastructure to avert further damage.
The State Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Afolayan Tunde, and the Chairman, of the State Emergency Management Agency, Adebomi Sunday, appealed to the residents to desist from dumping refuse along the waterways.

The fate of hundreds of residents rendered homeless remains unclear, but stakeholders demand proactive measures from the government to avert flooding in the state.
