Incumbent representative of Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Assembly primary election.
The three-term lawmaker announced his withdrawal after voting ended at his ward in Surulere, alleging intimidation of his supporters across the six party wards in the constituency.
Speaking after the exercise at Gbaja Township Stadium, Surulere, Elliot claimed the primary process was compromised by acts he said discouraged participation by his supporters.
However, his co-aspirant for the seat dismissed the allegations, insisting that the primary election across the various wards was peaceful, credible and conducted without intimidation.
The aspirant maintained that party members turned out in large numbers to vote for candidates of their choice.
As of the time of filing this report, the outcome of the APC primary election in Surulere Constituency I had not been officially announced, as electoral officials were still collating results.
