A Magistrates Court in Gombe has granted bail to journalist and social critic Ahmed Mande, detained by the police for allegedly making derogatory statements against the state governor Inuwa Yahaya over the cost of erecting the wall of Government House.
Chief Magistrate Aliyu Abubakar granted bail with conditions which include one surety on a bond of 500 hundred thousand naira.
The surety must be a civil servant on grade level 16 with the Gombe state government who should furnish the court with his or her last promotion letter, international passport and other means of identification.
The petition seen by ait.live and signed by his counsel Ayuba Rabiu accused the chief magistrate of abuse of office, deliberate abdication of duty and lowering the confidence of the public in the judiciary
The detained journalist and social critic Ahmed Mande sent a petition to the chief justice of the federation over the acts of the Chief Magistrate Aliyu Abubakar relating to his application bail and request for accelerated hearing.
