The Department of State Services, DSS, has arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of convicted former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, and handed him over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Security sources say DSS operatives tracked and arrested Faisal in the Karsana area of Abuja following intelligence that he had secretly returned to Nigeria.
Faisal had been on the run since 2020 after violating his bail conditions and fleeing the country while facing prosecution by the EFCC on three counts of money laundering and conspiracy.
His trial continued in his absence, and Justice Okon Abang sentenced him to 14 years in prison in 2021.

The court ordered his arrest wherever he was found in Nigeria and his remand in a correctional centre to serve his sentence. It also directed the federal government to take lawful steps to secure his extradition if he was found outside the country.
Sources say his handover to the EFCC is expected to facilitate enforcement of the court’s judgment.
