The Ebonyi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has elected Sampson Nwafor of the Independent Newspaper as its substantive Chairman, after the former holder of the office, Tony Nwizi was appointed an aide to the State Governor.
Nwafor emerged after a bye-election held at the NUJ Press Centre, Abakaliki on Tuesday.
The election was witnessed by the National Vice President, Zone C made up of States in the South East zone of the NUJ, Emmanuel Ifesinachi.
The National officer administered the oath of office on Nwafor, who was not challenged in the election.

But, the State Vice Chairman of the Union, Benjamin Nworie, is opposing the conduct of the bye-election, describing it as illegal and against the Constitution of NUJ.
He told ait.live that based on the provision of the Union’s Constitution, he is empowered to take over the reins of the Council in an acting capacity.
