Ebonyi

Ebonyi State government in the South East region of Nigeria, has urged residents to go about their normal businesses on Monday, 9th of August, 2021.

The advice is in response to a sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on the said date.

The pro-Biafran group had announced the sit-at-home order last week to protest against the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and to push for his release.

The separatist group had directed that all public and private institutions in the South East region of the country, including transport companies, schools, banks, markets, must be shut down to observe the order.

But a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Media, Francis Nwaze, urged the people of the State to feel free to go about their lawful businesses in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The statement notes that Government has directed security agencies to maintain law and order and ensure that all law-abiding citizens go about their duties unmolested.
