A delegation from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has finally met with leader of the military junta in Niger Republic, Major-General Abdurouhamane Tchiani.
The delegation led by former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar was welcomed at Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey by members of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland, CNSP and the Prime Minister of the Transition.
The delegation is notably composed of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sa’ad Abubakar III, one of the main Nigerian religious leaders and President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray.

Since the July 26 coup in Niger, ECOWAS has imposed sanctions against the country. The mission of the community is to negotiate with the new authorities of the country on the ways and means leading to the lifting of the sanctions.
The delegation after a meeting with members of the CNSP had a visit to former President Bazoum.
