The Nigeria Government has taken delivery of 2 ventilators and other critical medical equipment donated by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS and the West African Health Organization, WAHO to support the country’s fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
The medical equipment worth $8 million was handed over to the Presidential Task Force On Covid-19 at the Jabi Medical Warehouse in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Just before the official handing over of the medical equipment to the Nigerian authorities a minute silence was observed in honour of the late Ivory Coast Prime Minister Amadou Coulibaly who died on July 8 of heart-related conditions.
The Covid-19 pandemic no doubt is rapidly evolving in the West African sub-region where Nigeria has the single highest number of confirmed cases recorded by the 15 countries with daily increase in new infections.
The medical consignment handed over to the Nigeria is procured through grants from the German Government to support the country in flattening the curve of the virus.
PTF Chairman, Boss Mustapha who was represented by Permanent Secretary in Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olusegun Adekunle and other members of Task Force said the medical items will be used judiciously
Some of the items donated include personal protective equipment PPE, ventilators, test kits, gloves, gowns, and locally made hand sanitizers .
Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC says the test kits will be deployed for use immediately.
