The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, is stepping up efforts to strengthen communication and coordination across its institutions, with a new framework designed to improve public engagement and advance regional integration.
The regional bloc has commenced a workshop in Accra, Ghana, to drive the implementation of the ECOWAS Inter-Institutional Communication Strategy and Information and Communication Policy for 2026 to 2031.
The initiative, organised by the ECOWAS Commission in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation, GIZ, brings together communication officers from ECOWAS institutions and specialised agencies to harmonise messaging and translate the policy into practical actions.

Speaking at the workshop, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Ghana, Mohammed Gana, stressed the need to measure success by tangible results rather than the number of meetings held.

He said effective coordination should transform the working group from a platform for discussions into a mechanism for concrete regional action.
The strategy is expected to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation, improve public engagement, and promote a more coordinated communication approach in support of ECOWAS Vision 2050.
It also reinforces the regional bloc’s ambition to move from an ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of Peoples.
