Edo State House of Assembly has passed two bills seeking amendments to laws on financial management of the legislature and the judiciary.
It also confirmed a new chairman for the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.
The developments came during the plenary in Benin City, where the House also moved to impeach its former speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.
Two bills that sought to amend the Edo State House of Assembly Fund Management Law 2023 and the Judiciary Financial Autonomy Law 2023 were considered and passed by the lawmakers.
The Assembly also rejected what it described as the purported resignation of former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, insisting that he was removed from office.
Majority Leader, Ojezele Sunday, said the alleged resignation letter was not received through the proper parliamentary process.
A motion to remove him from office was subsequently passed by voice vote.
Speaker Idaiye directed Agbebaku to return all assembly property in his possession by the 28th of August 2026, warning of legal action for non-compliance.
The lawmakers also confirmed Ambrose Ayewoh-Oyakhilomen as Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.
