The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned sitting to January 21, 2025 following a delay in the filing of a schedule for witness presentation by the petitioner, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Governor Monday Okpebholo raise objections to the late notice of witness appearance, arguing that it failed to meet the procedural requirements for fair hearing.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere outside the Petition Tribunal was tense following a clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and some security personnel stationed at the premises.

Trouble began when a group of youths alleged that a security officer present at the court premises is not an official of the Department of State Services, DSS, but a private security guard.

Thereafter, the situation escalates to a clash between the APC supporters, security operatives, and journalists covering the tribunal proceedings.

It is the hope of Edo residents that the tribunal will be allowed to continue its sittings in a peaceful environment.
