Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has disagreed with some new policies rolled out by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, which include increasing the Monetary Policy Rate, MRP, by 400 basic points to 22.75% from 18.75% saying that they will not encourage the growth of country’s economy.
Speaking at an event organised by the Edo Zone of the Bankers’ Committee in Benin City, he called for promotion of homegrown goods and services as one of the ways out of the current economic challenges. Job creation for the teeming youth population in the country is another aspect he wants priority attention to be given.
The Governor seized the occasion to also share some of the achievements of his administration in the last seven years which include an improvement in security, attraction of private investments, drastic reduction in cases of illegal migration and human trafficking and massive job creation. Others are increment in agriculture production, digital connection across the state made possible through the laying of over 2,000 kilometres of fibre optic cables, improvement of electricity generation and a tremendous GDP growth, among others.
