Edo Police Command inaugurates community policing committee

The Edo State Police Command Thursday inaugurated three different community policing committees in the state as it intensifies its war against crime.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Diba Yakadi, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, at the inauguration, highlighted the relevance of the newly inaugurated committee of the Area Command Community Policing committee, Local Government and Divisional Community Policing committees.

Community policing is an organizational strategy that allows the police and the community to work closely together to solve the problems of crime, and social disorder.

AIG Yakadi and the state police commissioner of police Johnson Kokumo while appreciating the newly inaugurated committee members for yielding to the call to be part of effort to combat criminal activities said the police committees would be responsible for driving the community policing policies and strategies approved by the federal government being in partnership with the police and the various communities.

Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki and other key players who graced the inauguration submitted that the fight against crime involves the joint effort of all and the inauguration of the community policing committees at the area command, the local government and the police divisions will ensure that criminal tendencies are removed from the state.

The committee members who are drawn from the eighteen local government areas of Edo state have the responsibility of interfacing between the Command and the local communities, and to gather intelligence that would help combat crimes
