Edo State PDP elects new Chairman

The Edo state chapter of the People’s democratic party, PDP has held its state congress to elect new set of executives to pilot the affairs of the party in the next 4 years.

The congress which took place in the government reservation area, gra in benin city, the state capital was done under tight security.

Anthony aziegbemi wins the chairmanship position with 817 votes  while his closest rival Felix imoisili scored 488 votes. Meanwhile, Hillary otsu emerged winner of the state secretary position.

A total number of 1,563 accredited delegates from the 192 wards of edo state participated in the state congress to elect the new executives of the party.

Before the commencement of the party’s congress, a motion was moved and seconded for the dissolution of the dan orbih-led executive of the party.

There was heated argument by agents of the candidates about the voting pattern and it took the intervention of security personnel to pacify the tensed environment before  voting could commence.

The chairman of the edo state pdp congress electoral committee and governor of oyo state, seyi makinde who was represented by his special adviser, babatunde oduyoye described the exercise as free, fair and credible.

As at the time of this report results for other positions in the state executive of the party are still being collated.

Two chairmanship and a secretary aspirants boycotted the congress because they had dragged the party to court over the fallout of the ward and local government congresses.
