Youths in Ikpoba Okha have advised residents to maintain a clean environment and to support the waste management agencies of the Edo state government to effectively keep Benin metropolis clean.
The youths who turned out in their numbers at the Oregbeni market axis of Ikpoba Hill to support the Edo State Ministry of Environment on the week’s environmental sanitation exercise, commended the state government for reigniting the weekly and monthly sanitation exercise which will keep Edo state clean.
ait.live reports that as early as seven am on Monday, the youths turned up to join workers of the mMnistry of Environment to clean up gutters, blocked drainages and remove wasted cellophane bags and plastics that littered the area and blocked water ways around the market.
Leader of the youths identified as Kingsley Osemwingie said the cleanup exercise was part of their social responsibility to the community and the state, to ensure a clean environment and free flow of water in drainages which residents and shop owners were expected to replicate to keep Edo State Clean .
With government’s initiative to reignite the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state, the ministry of environment is excited with the initiative of the youths which it says will spur others to understand the importance of clean environment while the traders and residents promised total support to government to ensure a clean and safe Edo state.
The youths were hopeful of sustaining the clean up exercise in the weeks and months to come.
