Four suspects arrested by EFCC for hacking of commercial banks in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested one Chima Anthony Nwigwe, suspected to be the leader of banks’ hacking syndicate alongside three others, namely Effiong Victor Emmanuel; Managing Director of Downstone Ultimate Limited, Mohammed Bello Mahmud and Daminan Ali for alleged conspiracy, unauthorised access to banks’ computer systems and fraudulent withdrawal of depositors’ funds.

The information contained in a statement by the Commission explained that they were arrested in a sting operation in Abuja following actionable intelligence about their suspected involvement in hacking, compromising databases of commercial banks, thereby causing fraudulent transfers and withdrawals through different digital platforms.

The EFCC says the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
