The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, are set to deepen collaboration in investigating the alleged diversion and mismanagement of funds provided under United States government-supported programmes in Nigeria.

The development followed a meeting in Lagos between officials of the EFCC and an FBI delegation led by Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché, Macus Maccain.

The engagement focused on strengthening intelligence sharing and cooperation between both agencies.

Maccain said the investigation would focus particularly on organisations that received funds under programmes supported by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, including interventions targeting HIV and tuberculosis.

He said concerns emerged following the shutdown of some USAID programmes by the United States government in 2025.

According to him, questions were subsequently raised over the management of funds that remained with some implementing organisations after the programmes were discontinued.

Also speaking, Special Agent Jeremy Kennon of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Inspector General said reviews.
