The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has denied reports in some sections of the media accusing it of detaining a pregnant woman and another nursing mother over alleged vote – buying in the just concluded Governorship election in Ekiti State.
The commission in a Statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Willson Uwujaren said there is no iota of truth in the reports as there is no pregnant woman among the suspects arrested on allegation of vote buying during the Ekiti Governorship election.
The agency said pregnancy tests conducted on all the female suspects at the Kwara State Hospital, Ilorin returned negative.
It said earlier tests conducted in a private hospital also came out negative for all the female suspects.
EFCC said all male and female suspects are being held on a valid order of court pending the conclusion of investigations, pointing out that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The commission advised members of the public to ignore insinuations and wild claims about mistreatment of suspects as the commission is committed to strict adherence to the rule of law in all of its operations.
