Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned the All Progressives Congress, APC, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other political parties participating in the 2026 Ekiti governorship election against vote buying and other forms of electoral inducement.

He described the practice as a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic process.

Professor Amupitan gave the warning in Ado-Ekiti during the presentation of the updated voters’ register to political parties ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

The commission also announced that Ekiti State now has a total of 1,059,360 registered voters.

Earlier, Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner said INEC had intensified preparations for the election through stakeholder engagement, voter education, security coordination, personnel training and deployment of election technology.

He urged political parties, candidates and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply strictly with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.

Representatives of the APC, PDP, Accord Party and African Democratic Congress, ADC, were among party officials present at the presentation of the voters’ register.
