Political realignment is gathering momentum in Ekiti State, as the 2026 Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Wole Oluyede, joins forces with political actors across party lines to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The alliance has also received the backing of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
The political rivalry of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election is giving way to a new alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
At the centre of the realignment is Wole Oluyede, who contested the governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Through the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda, Oluyede is bringing together supporters and political actors from different parties to mobilise for President Bola Tinubu’s re election.
Oluyede says political differences arising from the governorship contest should not prevent political actors from working together where they share common interests.
He says the alliance will take its mobilisation across the 16 Local Government Areas and 177 wards of Ekiti State.
The political movement has drawn support from people associated with the PDP, Accord, Action Democratic Party, Young Progressive Party, Action Alliance and other political groups.
Oluyede says the target is to mobilise 90 per cent of votes in Ekiti State for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who defeated Oluyede in the 2026 governorship election, has also thrown his weight behind the collaboration.
Oyebanji says political differences should not undermine the collective interest of Ekiti State and called for cooperation among supporters working towards the same political objective.
The emerging alliance brings former political rivals onto the same platform ahead of 2027, even as Oluyede maintains that his support for President Tinubu does not amount to abandoning the PDP.
For Oluyede and his allies, the immediate task is taking the mobilisation from political gatherings to communities across Ekiti State.
