Residents of Ekiti state have been tasked to prevent violence against women in politics, support the Aspirants and the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.

Some members of the Civil Society Organisation made this call during an advocacy visit to gubernatorial candidates in Ado Ekiti.

Ahead of the Ekiti state gubernatorial elections scheduled for June 18, 2022, stakeholders in the state have obtained commitment from three of the gubernatorial candidates to strive for a peaceful poll.

The Aspirants made the commitment during visits by stakeholders led by Nollywood actress, Ini Edo.

The stakeholders tasked Political parties to organise peaceful electioneering campaign and take their stand against hate speech and electoral violence.

The gubernatorial candidates including candidates of the All progressives Congress and People’s Democratic party pledged to be committed to a peaceful poll.

The Stakeholders also charged candidates to be committed to the implementation the Ekiti state gender based violence prohibition law of 2019.
