Delta residents have welcomed President Buhari’s assent to the long awaited Electoral Act 2022 with mixed feelings.
AIT monitored the mood in Delta South Senatorial District where the preparedness of the Electoral Umpire, INEC to implement every clause in the new Electoral Act without external influence from politicians was questioned.
The Electoral Act 2022 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari which now replaces the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) has continued to attract commendations from the Niger Delta.
Amid the commendations here in Delta State are concerns about whether the new Electoral Act will be fully implemented by the various actors for the 2023 general election.
Sections of the Act which deals with activities of political parties and politicians in office vying for another elective position, some believe will pave way for credible electoral system when duly implemented.
As the 2023 general election fast approaches, Nigerians expect an election where their votes count.
