The leadership of the House of Representatives has congratulated all Nigerians on the signing of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement released by the House spokesperson, Benjamin Kalu, the leadership described the development as fulfillment of a key promise made to Nigerians by the 9th House of Representatives to deliver an amended electoral law worthy of the country’s blossoming democracy.
The statement explained that the Act is a product of extensive work and collaboration by all Nigerians, stakeholders, civil society and the National Assembly under the leadership of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who showed commitment to doing the business of the people distinctively.

The House congratulated President Buhari for upholding a legacy for Nigerians by signing the historic bill after several years of hard work and expressed confidence that the bill which has become law will substantially improve the integrity of Nigerian elections.
The statement called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately commence preparations for the next elections saying it remain confident in the ability of the electoral umpire to deliver credible elections as they faithfully implement the law.
