Edo State House of Assembly has formally commenced impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu over allegations of perjury and revelation of government secrets.
The commencement of proceedings was announced by Majority Leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian at Wednesday’s plenary in Benin City, the state capital. The impeachment notice he says is signed by a majority of the 24 state legislators.
Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku who received the impeachment notice directed the Clerk to serve it on the embattled Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu who has seven days within which to respond to the allegations against him.
Thereafter, the Assembly adjourned its plenary to March 11.
