Following the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), to extend the ongoing strike, to press home their demands, students of the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria, have taken to the streets, to protest what they called, insensitivity by the Federal Government in addressing the demands of ASUU, which they claimed have rendered all Nigerian university students idle and stranded, in the last few months.

The students maintained that the 2023 General Elections should not be a priority, insisting that the crisis between ç and the Federal Government must receive top consideration, and be resolved, for them to return to the classroom.
Before now the University of Ilorin as a federal institution has enjoyed a stable academic calendar for more than two decades, which has made it the most sought after by admission seekers.
Recently, the incessant strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), have affected the institution, destabilizing its past stable academic calendar.
However, the students say, the current industrial action by ASUU, is already taking its toll on every aspect of their lives, as the idleness has led many into social vices.

They maintained that this is just a warning protest, as they are fully ready to cripple the nation’s economy if the Federal Government fails to settle ASUU.
The students also challenged the politicians, to see the nation’s education sector, as important to the future of the country, rather than just running to occupy political offices, as the 2023 elections draw near.
As for the Nigerian university students, the 2023 General Election is not their priority but ending the lingering ASUU strike.
