Enugu Musician’s Death: Police Dismiss Indicted Officer, Faces Prosecution

The Nigeria Police Force have dismissed and arraigned Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji, the officer said to be responsible for the shooting and killing of Enugu traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah.

According to the Enugu State Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the action follows an orderly room trial where the officer was found culpable of murder.

Docked before Chief Magistrate Ngozi Edeh-Anih at the Enugu East Court 1 was, the dismissed officer, Joseph Ozonwanji, formerly of the rank of an Inspector attached to Anti-Cultism Police Squad, Enugu Command.

Ozonwanji faces charges of murder for unlawfully killing the Ogene traditional musician, Okezie Mba, alias Igbo-Jah, by firing multiple rounds with an AK-47 rifle, which led to the musician’s death last Friday night.

After arraignment, the Chief Magistrate ordered that the case file be sent to the Enugu State Attorney General for further action, as she remanded Ozonwanji at the Enugu State Correctional Center.

While Monday’s Court session was on, the Enugu State Government demonstrated more support by again paying another visit to the family of the late musician, less than 24 hours.

This time, the government announced scholarships for Igbo-Jah’s children, covering their education up to university levels.
