The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says technology will play a major role in the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election as part of efforts to ensure a credible and transparent process.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Enugu State, Chukwuemeka Chukwu, made this known while opening the training of prospective Supervisory Presiding Officers ahead of the Enugu North Senatorial Zone to elect a new senator following the vacancy created by the death of their former representative.

For INEC, one of the key steps is preparing the officials who will manage the election on the field.

Addressing the prospective Supervisory Presiding Officers, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Chukwuemeka Chukwu described the training as a vital part of the commission’s preparations, noting that the success of the election will depend largely on the competence and professionalism of field officials.

INEC also announced that only three political parties, the APC, PDP and Boot Party, will be on the ballot, setting the stage for a keen contest in the Enugu North Senatorial District.
