While few cities across Nigeria witnessed protests led by the ‘Take It Back’ movement over alleged human rights abuses and the Federal government’s imposition of an emergency rule in Rivers State, Enugu State , Southeast Nigeria, remained calm and peaceful on Monday.

Unlike in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt where demonstrators took to the streets and disrupted some economic and other activities, the atmosphere in Enugu, was business-as-usual.

Markets were open, transport services ran smoothly, government and private sector offices operated optimally, and no protest-related activities were observed within the metropolis or surrounding areas.

Security agencies were however seen maintaining routine surveillance, with no reported disruptions or mobilization of protesters in the State.

The ‘Take It Back’ group had called for a nationwide protest to demand the restoration of democratic order in Rivers State and an end to what they described as increasing cases of human rights violations under the current federal administration.

Despite the movement’s call for mass participation, Enugu State appeared unaffected by the agitation.
