The Police in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, has confirmed that no fewer than 36 kidnapped victims were rescued in the past two months, while 33 suspected kidnappers were arrested within the same period.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bitrus Giwa, disclosed this on Thursday, during his first Media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Enugu.
CP Giwa, who assumed office on March 11, 2025, after taking over from AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, told Journalists that his first two months of overseeing the security of Enugu State have been significant in combating of crimes, highlighting his operational breakthroughs within the period.

According to the new CP, strategic operations by operatives of the Command had resulted in the arrested of 288 suspects for various crimes, including 33 for kidnapping, 12 for murder, and 44 for armed robbery.
Giving details of a key operation conducted under his supervision, CP Giwa narrated how operatives rescued a kidnapped couple on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from a forest in Obinofia-Ndiuno in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State.

CP Giwa is therefore assuring the people of Enugu State that under his leadership of the Police command, crime will not be tolerated, as he also pledged zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, corruption, extortion, harassment, or intimidation by Police personnel.
