Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has flagged off the distribution of over N4.6 billion worth of agricultural inputs and grants to farmers, communities, and IT startups.

The event, held at the popular Michael Okpara Square in the Enugu city on Thursday, is part of the Governor’s broader strategy to enhance food security, agro-industrialization, and support for small businesses.

It is an initiative which represents a milestone in Enugu State’s development, aiming to boost the economies of rural dwellers and communities.

Governor Mbah said at the event that the State’s economy is being prepared for unprecedented growth, with a key focus on agriculture.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to the sector, Mbah outlined plans to scale up production for smallholder farmers, which is essential for advancing into agro-processing.

In addition to agricultural support, the Governor announced a One billion Naira fund to assist MSMEs, with 80 percent of the fund specifically allocated to women-owned businesses.

Governor Mbah also addressed the State’s commitment to eradicating open defecation by the end of 2024, with 135 communities each receiving 15 million Naira to build public toilets in markets and hospitals.

Some beneficiaries of the programme shared their positive reactions, praising Governor Mbah’s initiatives and projections for agro-businesses and economic rejuvenation of Enugu State and the people..

ait.live reports that development experts believe that these initiatives, combined with improvements in rural infrastructure, are necessary in transforming Enugu State into a vibrant region, thriving in economic activities.
