Governors in the southwest region of Nigeria have been advised on the urgent need to employ more environmental health officers to protect and promote a healthy living environment.
The call was made in Akure Ondo State capital on Tuesday at the 7th South West conference of environmental health officers of Nigeria.
Every year in Nigeria, there are reported cases of loss of Lives and property worth millions of naira due to the impact of flooding and other environmental and sanitation challenges.

However, to tackle the menace, these Environmental health officers drawn from all the southwest states are gathered here in Ondo state to proffer solutions to the challenges of environmental health management.
Part of the solutions suggested is the urgent employment of more environmental health officers inline with the best global practice for a healthy environment.
The Environmental Officers were also advised to acquire modern skills in the digitalization of Environmental health practice.
It is the hope of the participants that the various suggestions raised at this fora will be implemented for a customized solution to environmental health-related problems in the southwest region of the country.
