The Federal Government has sealed off 13 facilities in different parts of the Federal Capital Territory for various environmental crimes.
Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, Aliyu Jauro who addressed newsmen after the exercise said it was in line with the agency’s mandate to ensure compliance with extant Environmental Standards by all facilities in the country.
Facilities sealed by NEREA’s enforcement team include Veritas Plastics, Almat Farms, Dayak Nigeria Limited,
FIK Contracting Limited, Salis Ventilated Homes Ltd, and Peachville Estate.
Others are Net Construction Nigeria Limited, Sazak Acre Bilogue, Coppa D’alberto Ltd, Efab Properties Ltd, Homes, Phinada Mill and Skippers Electronics.
The facilities were shutdown for failing to comply with environmental regulations such as Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, Environmental Audit, EA, Environmental Management Plans, and Environmental Permit among others.
Jauro represented by the Director, Inspection and Enforcement, Abdulsalam Isa during the enforcement exercise says the team followed due process in clamping down on the facilities after exhausting all relevant communications in respect of their environmental status.
The Director-General said the exercise will be replicated in all states of the federation to restore sanity to the environment and protect human lives.
