The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Zhou Pingjian, has called for solidarity with his country rather than panic and stigmatisation.

Speaking Thursday in Abuja at a forum to address the Nigeria-China cooperation in the context of health emergency caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 and the imperative of joint efforts and collaboration, the envoy disclosed that the disease has been on a 9-day decline.

Pingjian added that since February 1, cured cases have begun to outnumber deaths.

He also said as of February 12, a total of 5,998 persons were discharged from hospital after recovery.

According to the Ambassador, the country has engaged over 32,000 doctors to ensure that the virus is contained.

The envoy urged Nigerians in China and at home to be calm, he stressed that it’s safer for Nigerians in China to stay back and take adequate measures towards personal safety.
as China is working with the World Health Organisation, WHO to combat the virus with all sense of sincerity. He declared that foreign nationals are safe in China.

Recall that the WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros recently cautioned against hasty movement out of China and held that the safest way for foreign nationals in Wuhan is to remain rather than return to their countries of origin.

Ambassador Zhou Pingjian stressed that the epicenter of the ongoing epidemic is in Wuhan in Hubei and that stereotyping the province with the entire China was misleading.
