The European Union is set to provide 20 Million Euros in defence support to the Nigerian Armed Forces under the European Peace Facility.
The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, disclosed this during a visit to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), at Ship House in Abuja.
Mignot said an EU technical delegation would visit Abuja in November to finalise the modalities for delivering the support.
The meeting also reviewed bilateral defence agreements and security cooperation between Nigeria and the European Union.
The EU Ambassador commended the Minister’s efforts to address the country’s security challenges and invited him to a meeting of Defence Ministers in Brussels later this year.
Responding, General Christopher Musa expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued support, assuring the delegation of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to protecting lives and promoting national development.
The Minister acknowledged that kidnapping along major highways and attacks on isolated communities remained security concerns.
He, however, expressed confidence that ongoing operations by the Armed Forces and other security agencies would help restore lasting peace across the country.
